Before becoming one of the major figures of Hollywood, Matthew McConaughey has camped a bad role in an unclear episode of a cult saga of horror films. And the way he obtained the role is rather surprising!
Today, Matthew McConaughey is recognized for his highlights in films signed by prestigious directors like Steven Spielberg (Amistad), Jean-Marc Vallée (Dallas Buyers Club, for which he won an Oscar), Martin Scorsese (the Wall of Wall Street) or Christopher Nolan (Interstellar). This last film is also considered one of the best science fiction films with its impressive note of 4.5 out of 5 from the spectators of Allociné. But above all that, he started modestly, especially by playing in the chainsaw massacre, the new generation.

In this fourth part of the franchise launched by Tobe Hooper with the very first chainsaw massacre in 1974, McConaughey interpreted Vilmer, a descendant of the terrifying Leatherface, sowing terror among a group of young people – of which Renée Zellweger is part. The film was not frankly unanimously, collecting the very low note of 1.1 out of 5 on Allociné: it thus inscribes rather in the register of the Nanar.
However, the actor keeps a good memory of this shoot, which took place just after that of rebellious generation of Richard Linklater. And he still laughs when he remembers how he managed to win the role.
A spontaneous hearing
Originally, Matthew McConaughey should only have a small role in the film, a role that would have barely required a day of shooting. But when the production needed an actor to embody the villain Vilmer, he had an idea: to try his luck by auditioning for this key character.

But in the parking lot, he had a revelation.

The secretary of the production office then offered to read the stage with him. The young actor was almost ready, but he was still missing one thing …
