What if Cole Hauser had never interpreted Rip Wheeler in Yellowstone? Of course, today it seems impossible to see another actor lend his features to the foreman of the Western series, which he will find on the occasion of the spin-off whose title will not be The Dutton Ranch.
And yet, originally Cole Hauser was offered another role than that of RIP. In an interview with Hollywood Reporterthe American actor reveals that the co-creator of the John Lanson program contacted him to offer him the role of one of the sons of John Dutton (Kevin Costner).
Cole Hauser could have only appeared in the first episode of Yellowstone!
The identity of the character is not specified, but suppose that it was not Jamie, and that Cole Hauser is too old to play Kayce: then would only remain the role of Lee, which would have been a bad draw since he dies from the first episode of the program.
But when reading the script, Cole Hauser's attention was paid to another character: Rip Wheeler. “I read the pilot and said to myself: Well, this guy [Rip] has only a few scenes, but I love the character. I had Taylor on the phone. We talked for two hours, and that's a bit like that it all started “ he detailed to our colleagues.
It was then his conversations with Taylor Sheridan, the other creator of the series, which allowed the character to gain more importance in the story. Ideas submitted by Cole Hauser have been selected, and this is how the American actor was able to absorb completely from the role of RIP. The rest belongs to the story: a simple secondary character, Rip Wheeler has become one of the main heroes of Yellowstone.
The fourth son Dutton is him
Ironically, his marriage to Beth Dutton made him the fourth son – by alliance, therefore – by John Dutton. The patriarch embodied by Kevin Costner had already made Rip his trusted man, and had raised him like a son although he never officially adopted him (and so much the better, because it would have made his marriage to Beth impossible).
Cole Hauser will start soon alongside Kelly Reilly the shooting of the spin-off which will follow Yellowstone. Three other derivative series are also expected: The Madison with Michelle Pfeiffer, Y: Marshals A spin-off centered on Kayce Dutton and a third prequel-after 1883 and 1923-taking place in 1944.
