Disney+ is putting online today the first three episodes of “Ironheart”, a science fiction series that the platform has kept preciously in these boxes for 3 years. We explain why.
Ironheart, what is it about?
Riri Williams, a young genius inventor, is determined to leave her brand on the world. But its unique approach to the construction of metal armor is both brilliant and … perfectible! “Ironheart” explores the dynamics of technology compared to magic.
A long gestation
In 2020, everything is fine for Marvel. The Maison des Idées has just concluded a 10 -year saga with the excellent Avengers: Endgame and is about to take a new turn with the launch of the Disney+platform.
The studios are very ambitious and announce that they want to launch three to four Marvel series per year. They announce various projects including Ironheart, centered on superheroine then unknown Riri Williams. But it was not until two years later and the release of Black Panther 2 to meet him and that of his interpreter, Dominique Thorne.
Everything is linked for the young 25-year-old actress who begins the shooting of the science fiction series: she is quickly joined by Anthony Ramos, Manny Montana or Alden Ehrenreich. Marvel hopes to offer Ironheart to his subscribers in 2023 but everything does not go as planned: the scriptwriters' strike that summer upsets the schedules.
But above all, it is the crisis within the superheroic company which no longer federates as much as before. A change in strategy is essential: Disney+ will only broadcast two Marvel series per year, half as much as usual. Ironheart pays the costs and its exit is once again pushed back to 2025, three years after its shooting. The latter also closes phase 5.
Meet a new superheroine
Corrated by Chinaka Hodge and co-produced by Ryan Coogler (Black Panther) via his company, Ironheart is a mixture of genres: with her African-American heroine and her love letter to the city of Chicago, the series highlights black American culture. But above all, she made winks supported at two avengers appreciated by fans – Iron Man and Dr Strange – through the confrontation between magic and technology …
Marvel fans of the first hour should find their account through the history of this genius who does not want to become the new Tony Stark but who just hopes to survive day.
Ironheart, three episodes this Wednesday, June 25 and the last three on Wednesday July 2 on Disney+.
