Tonight on Netflix: it's the Korean nugget to discover urgently

She approached the subject of mental health with sincerity and humanity, leaving the taboos aside: we named “Daily Dose of Sunshine”, the Medical, the Sensitive, the Authentic.

Jung Da-Eun (Park Bo-Young) is a young nurse transferred from the internal medicine service to the psychiatry department of the Myungshin University Hospital.

It was his first experience in neuropsychiatry. But despite the difficulties she encounters, Da-Eun is determined to bring a ray of sunshine to those she takes care of. The nurse with a big heart thus sails in the world of mental health and the various stories that surround him and does his best to deal with his patients, while benefiting from the support-and expertise-of the chief nurse Song Hyo-Jin (Lee Jung-Eun).

Alongside Da-Eun, we meet Dong Go-Yun (Yeon Woo-Jin), a doctor specializing in proctology, who sees his life change by the purity of the nurse. Song Yu-Chan (Jang Dong-Yoon), meanwhile, is a friend of the latter. He seems to be a very brilliant person, but he carries in him a pain that nobody suspects.

Daily Dose of Sunshine is, as its name suggests, a “sun dose” for those who desperately need it. A real surprise, the series produced by Lee Jae-Gyu and released in 2023 on Netflix, is adapted from the eponymous webtoon of 2020 by Lee Ra-ha, a former nurse. The story highlights the experience of the author.

Please note, the series has the distinction of tackling sensitive subjects. Indeed, depression and other psychological disorders are at the heart of its story. But if it shines particularly, it is because these delicate themes are treated with accuracy and sensitivity, realism and scientific fidelity, just like the reasons which can sometimes lead individuals to consult a psychiatrist – a subject still too taboo in our society.

Thus, if the program addressed to an informed audience can be hard to look at for those who are particularly affected by the very real intrigues it stages, it can also have a therapeutic effect for those who are ready.

Touching and compassionate, the show is carried by the adorable Park Bo-Young (Strong Woman Do Bong Soon). Her interpretation entrusts the protagonist, who is quickly attached, a goodness and a palpable benevolence. Facing her Yeon WOO-JIN (The virtues of the sale), Jang Dong-Yoon (The Tale of Nokdu) and of course Lee Jung-Eun (Miss Night and Day, Parasite) Complete a set of actors in the authentic game, determined to embody human characters, with their strengths and their flaws, and to do justice to the stories told.
