When we look at Brad Pitt's filmography and come across World War Z, there is like something wrong. Why this film? Why a zombie film in the career of one of the most recognized actors of the moment? A metaphor for Brad Pitt's life
Think of the film with this prism in mind. The film begins with Brad Pitt trying to live the life of a normal father with his wife and children. But they are immediately besieged by a horde of terrifying and drooling creatures. According to this metaphor, the zombies replace paparazzi or anyone eager to know more about their favorite star by throwing themselves on the slightest info having his name in the title.
It is clear that Gerry/Brad and his family cannot return home. They need to live in a safe place, away from the world. In the film, it is the UN command center aboard a ship. As a bonus, they adopt an orphan along the way.
Escape world hysteria
Throughout the film, Gerry travels the world. Like Brad Pitt. And each time, it's the riot. A riot of zombies, but it seems comparable to a riot of rabid fans. At the very end, he injects a fatal disease because he understood that zombies do not attack sick people in terminal phase or people seriously injured, because they are not hosts appropriate for infection.
Gerry/Brad then walks in a corridor filled with creatures in a state of brain. They turn around, run towards him – and finally miss him right. It is the ultimate dream of the Hollywood star besieged. The possibility of walking freely, without fear that anyone who comes to disturb him, jump to his neck whether he is alone or with the family.
