For the past few weeks, Netflix has presented its new series “The Waterfront” as freely inspired by a true story. But we didn't think it was his creator, Kevin Williamson!
More than 25 years after the launch of Dawson, Kevin Williamson presents one of his most personal projects: the series The Waterfront, available since Thursday on Netflix. The creator reveals to New York Post that the series is “freely inspired“From his family and his late father,”A fisherman who had put himself in the kneader by passing drugs on his boat“.
“”It was really minor things“, he tempers.”He was arrested. He paid the price.“Despite this troubled past, Williamson describes his father as”The most formidable man“, wondering:”How could a man have so good to deviate from the right way?“”
A malicious tribute to a complex father
“”He always said: 'Wait until I'm dead'“Confides the showrunner.”But I know he had a lot of humor. I am sure, wherever it is, it is happy that I have done this series.“”
Kevin Williamson underlines the current resonance of the scenario: “Today, everyone has a secondary activity … We do what we can survive and pay the bills. I wanted to explore this struggle.“In The Waterfront, the Buckley family sinks into drug trafficking to save their fishing empire in North Carolina – a choice with necessarily chaotic consequences.
The distribution brings together Melissa Benoist (the daughter), Jake Weary (the son), Mario Bello (the mother) and Holt McCallany (in the role of the patriarch) who embody a dynasty of wealthy fishermen caught in a criminal spiral. The Waterfront is added to the rich filmography of Williamson (Scream, Vampire Diaries), and digs as often the vein of family fractures from the angle of the thriller.
The Waterfront is fully available on Netflix.
