Netflix puts online on May 29 “Forgotten files”, a dark and violent police thriller from which you will not be released unscathed.
What is it talking about?
Inspector Carl Morck is a brilliant policeman, but not easy to live according to his colleagues. His sharp sarcasm has earned him many troubles in the Edinburgh police. After a shooting that cost a young agent life and paralyzed his partner, he finds himself exiled in the basement and the only member of the Q department, a newly created unit to resolve unresolved cases.
This department is an advertising, intended to divert the attention of the failures of a failing and under-equipped police, happy to see him leave. More by chance than by choice, Carl begins to constitute a team of young people who have everything to prove. Will his unorthodox methods allow him to elucidate his first Cold Case: the disappearance of a senior official for several years …
What to know
If the pitch of forgotten files tells you something, it is because it is the adaptation of the novels of the Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen. His police saga “DEPARTMENT Q” has sold more than 28 million copies over the past ten years. Each book tells a Cold Case – an unresolved case – that Carl and his teammate Hafez el -Assad are trying to solve.
His books have been adapted to Denmark, through a series of films that have had some success (with Nikolaj Lie Kaas and Fares Fares in the main roles). Exit the cold decorations of Denmark, this new adaptation by Netflix takes place in Scotland, in a sticky atmosphere.
The forgotten files is a British thriller made in the rules of the art: it is slow, dark and violent when necessary (there is a lot of hemoglobin), but with small touches of black humor at certain moments.

Netflix
Scott Frank, to whom we owe the excellent the lady's game, had only one name in mind to camp her anti-hero: Matthew Goode. Seen in Downton Abbey and The Crown, the English actor is perfect in the role of a silent police officer, antipathetic and suffering from post-traumatic stress:
“I have been working with Matthew since 2006 said Scott Frank in Tudum. I wrote while thinking of him. I knew he could do it and that he would bring this undeniable intelligence that he has, but that he could also be very emotional but without being sentimental.”
The new Broadchurch?
Forgotten files is the kind of fairly slow series but which takes the time to develop the psychology of the characters. The tone, black and sometimes brutal, can leave some spectators on the side of the road but it is also what makes its strength. In style, it is close to Broadchurch, with a hero flayed by life, and a family story that mixes past and present.
On the casting side, we find in the series Chloe Pirrie (the lady's game), Alexej Manvelov (Jack Ryan), Kelly Macdonald, Kate Dickie (Loki) or Shirley Henderson (Harry Potter).
Forgotten files is a procedural series, with an investigation every season. And the first, made up of 9 episodes of 1 hour each awaits you today on Netflix.
