Still the fastest track in NASCAR: Qualifying lap in Michigan is the fastest in 7 years

Brooklyn, MI – Chess Brisco covered a distance of 195.514 mph on Saturday, June 7 at Michigan International Speedway.

This earned him the position of pole for Sunday's firekeepers Casino 400 Cup Series Race – his third consecutive poll.

This was the fastest qualification in NASCAR since 2018. The previous record in the next car car – which was introduced in the Cup series in 2022 – was 193.283 mph in MIS in 2023.

The brisco thought he could hit the fence, but keeps his foot in the gas throughout the time.

“I was on the verge of lifting a few times,” said Brisco. “This is a place that definitely attracts your attention, from a motion point of view.”

The track record is 206.558 mph, determined by Jeff Gordon in 2014. The last 200 mph in NASCAR came to Texas in the intermittent lap 2018. The same year, the MIS qualifying speed topped the period of 203 mph.

Dating back in the first race in 1969, take a look at the fastest average qualifying speed every year in MIS.

In 2019, MIS slowed down when NASCAR changed the engine from 750 horsepower to 550 horsepower. NASCAR raised horsepower to 670 in 2022.

So far this year, the next fastest speed was seen at a speed of 191.7 mph on the Texas Motor Speedway-which is 4 mph speed compared to the lap of the brisko.
