New Spanish series in the “elite” vein on Netflix, “Olympo” tells the daily life of young high -level athletes. Is this new fiction not recommended for the under 16s inspired by a true story?
Elite producers have managed to find a successor more than at the height with a new Spanish Netflix series perfect at the start of the summer. Created by Jan Matheu Montserrat, Laia Foguet and Ibai Abad, Olympo is counting on a young charismatic cast, sensual scenes and many twists and turns.
This 8 episodes series is centered on the best athletes in the country who train in the center of high performance in the Pyrenees, such as Amaia, the captain of the national synchronized swimming team which requires only the best of itself and allows no error.
But when her teammate and best friend Núria surpasses her for the first time, Amaia realizes that some athletes inexplicably improve their performances … After years pushing their bodies to the limit and sacrificing their life for sport, they are confronted with a dilemma: how far are they ready to go?
Is the “Olympo” series inspired by a true story?
Unlike Elite, the young people of Olympo are always in one and the same place: the center of high performance of the Pyrenees in order to prepare for the Worlds and for the next Olympic Games, especially in synchronized swimming, in heptathlon, in cycling and rugby, the sports practiced by the main protagonists.
You should know that this particular center does not exist. The distribution, composed in particular of Clara Galle (through my window, nor una más), Agustín della Corte (Le Cercle des Neiges), Nuno Gallego (EliteA back very: new generation), María Romanillos (Paraíso), Juan Perales (Elite), Andy Duato (Hit) and Najwa Khliwa (Menudas Piezas), turned the interior scenes from the center to the studio.

The outdoor scenes were shot near the complex of the Panticosa thermal station in Huesca, in northern Spain. But high performance centers exist and prepare athletes for their high-level competitions, especially in the Pyrenees, such as the National Center for Altitude at Font-Romeu.
Olympo is not inspired by a particular story in particular but it is still inspired by the high -level sporting environment, which still fascinates the general public as much, so much for its impressive figures, its champions and champions with a strong character, its very expensive sponsorships which report fat, its doping scandals and its sometimes suffocated claims.
The last Olympic Games which took place in Paris in 2024 of course revived public interest in sportsmen and sports as well as their disciplines, known or more unusual.
Olympo seemed to want to surf this popularity since the shooting had been announced at the same time. A year later, the Spanish series finally landed on Netflix with a quality result and with a casting that has gave itself.
When one of the actors is also a high -level sportsman!
One of the actors of Olympo is a high -level athlete who was able to use his experience to embody his character. They are Agustín Della Corte, a Uruguayan international rugby player in XV, actor and model.

You have already seen him in the film the Cercle des Neiges by Juan Antonio Bayona and he plays Roque, a rugby player, in Olympo. “Strong from my own experience as a high -level sportsman, I adopted this approach to embody Roque, and we were able to draw a very beautiful portrait of the way people work and train as a team”he explains to 20 minutes Spain.
He continues: “Everything that happens behind the scenes in the life of an athlete, which we generally do not see, because we only see them in the field and in full success, and generally only those who reach the high level. But there are many things behind the scenes, a lot of dramas, a lot of efforts and sacrifices. I find it very attractive to see in the series”.
Olympic athletes have been consulted for “Olympo”
Some Olympo actors have had the chance to rub shoulders with real stars of the Olympic Games to help them prepare their roles. This is the case of Clara Galle, whose Amaia character is an athlete in synchronized swimming, who was able to chat with Ona Carbonell, Spanish synchronized swimmer silver medalist in duet and bronze in the team at the 2012 Olympic Games.
“She has a character in the series, and we were able to speak to her and ask her questions”says Clara Galle, “It was very fun because we exchanged our trades a little. I also went crazy and I wrote to all the team swimmers on Instagram and I discovered a whole new world”.

The actors had to train hard for months before filming to master their respective sports and reach the required physical form. “We spent four months training before”says Nuno Gallego, “but during the shooting, we continued, which was nine months of madness”.
“It was really nice. We all went together in training and we only talked about creatine and protein”adds Clara Galle. “It brought us closer, because it created a very different dynamic from what this type of production can have. As we could not go out to party, the dynamics were different, based on discipline, responsibility, teamwork, support, encouragement and mutual aid, and country house projects”.
The “Olympo” series is available on Netflix.
