Not recommended for the under 16s, this Netflix film had created the controversy when it was released in 2020

Presented as the new “50 shades of Gray” when it was released on Netflix, this Polish film not recommended for under 16 had created the controversy for several reasons.

After a huge success in the cinema in Poland, Netflix bought the broadcasting rights for the film 365 DNI, the adaptation of the first volume of the literary saga of Blanka Lipińska. And on the platform, the spectators were divided between fascination and exasperation.

A success on Netflix but …

365 DNI tells the story of Massimo, a member of the Sicilian mafia, and Laura, sales director. The latter does not suspect what awaits him during a trip to Sicily intended to save her couple: Massimo kidnaps her and gives her 365 days so that she falls in love with him.

On paper, the Polish feature film is quickly compared to fifty shades of Gray, another adaptation of novels Soft Porn Who also follows a strong and sensitive young woman and a rich and dominant man.

365 days quickly found its audience when it was released by becoming the most seen film of the moment: part of the public falls under the spell of its two actors – Michele Morrone and Anna Maria Sieklucka – and this unconventional love story.

But he is also accused by many spectators of glamorizing sequestration and Stockholm syndrome. A particular scene crystallizes all the criticisms: that of a rape on the character of Laura who calls into question the notion of consent.

365 DNI: The singer Duffy requests the withdrawal of the controversial film on Netflix

The character of Massimo is clearly pointed out: he is a domineering, violent and misogynist male character. 365 DNI also struck the public for his very explicit sex sequences (but indeed simulated).

Faced with the success of the film on its platform, Netflix announces the release of two suites, adapted from the novels of Blanka Lipińska. But the platform promises it: they will be more soft, with less explicit sex scenes.

An actor who goes up

365 DNI in any case allowed its main actor to stand out in the eyes of the general public. Since his appearance in the film, Michele Morrone has been chaining projects, especially in the United States.

The Italian actor and singer was last month in the shadow poster of Emily 2 alongside Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick – where he once again plays an Italian mafia. He was also chosen by Paul Feig in the adaptation of the bestseller the cleaning lady. It is he who will lend his features to the dark Enzo in the expected feature film for Christmas at the cinema.

Enzo is a gardener who works for Nina Winchester (Amanda Seyfried), a rich woman who also hires Millie (Sydney Sweeney) for cleaning. For the latter, this work represents a chance to start from scratch. But, under respectable outside, her boss, Nina, is more and more toxic. When Millie discovers that the door of his room can only be locked from the outside, it may already be too late …

Michele Morrone has also turned in other feature films that have no release date in France for the moment: subservience with Megan Fox, Bunny-Man with Mike Tyson and James Franco, as well as Maserati: The Brothers with Anthony Hopkins.

365 DNI left Netflix on June 7.
