The essential of the week

The Waterfront (June 19):

For decades, the Buckley family has reigned on Haveport, North Carolina, controlling everything, from the fishing industry to the city's restaurants. But while the Patriarch, Harlan Buckley (Holt McCallany), recalls two heart attacks, his fishing empire begins to collapse, pushing his wife, Belle (Maria Bello), and her son, Cane (Jake Weary), to throw herself in the water to maintain family affairs.

Seeing them outdated and sailing in troubled waters, Harlan returns and takes up the reins. For her part, Bree (Melissa Benoist), the daughter Buckley, a toxicomane in the process of healing who lost custody of her son Diller (Brady Hepner), faces her own demons. Stuck in a complicated relationship, she risks compromising the future of her family.

Inspired by real facts and taking place on the shores of North Carolina, The Waterfront is the new series of the prolific showrunner Kevin Williamson (Scream, Dawson, Vampire Diaries). This twisted drama in eight episodes evokes both family dynamics and how far some are ready to go to save a legacy.
