Author of 16 jumps with a fiery parachute for the needs of “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning”, Tom Cruise has signed a world record, validated by Guinness.
In 2028, stuntmen will finally be rewarded by the Academy during the hundredth Oscar ceremony. And it is a trophy to which Tom Cruise could have claimed (or that he would have already won) if he had been established before: difficult, indeed, not to imagine it as immense favorite and winner when we see the images of impossible mission – The Final Reckoning, between his air acrobatics between two planes or this irrespirable underwater sequence.
To date, it was difficult to make a choice and to retain only one waterfall, but the star stole from our rescue by revealing that he had broken a world record, validated by Guinness, by turning a scene: that, at the end of the epic story, during which Ethan sees his parachute taking fire when he is several hundred meters from the ground.
A flamboyant cascade that the actor, faithful to himself, has done sixteen times with the help of a parachute soaked in essence, to enter the story at the risk of his life, as he makes us understand in the making-of intended to immortalize this scene.

“If the parachute twists while it burns, I'm going to start spinning and catching fire”explains Tom Cruise to his teams. “So I have to get out of the twist and ignite it in the space of ten seconds. We have to be clever, which does not mean taking risks. This is not what we do, of course.” Which, even says with a smile in front of the camera and the consciousness of the irony of the sentence, remains to be seen.
Because what the video, which offers us an overview of each of the sixteen jumps, does not say is that after having set fire to its parachute, which disintegrated in a few seconds, Tom Cruise had to fall into free fall before deploying a second canvas, to land in a single piece. Exactly as Ethan does in the film, which supports this idea a little more than the star and his character are now one.
“Tom Cruise does not only play action heroes – he's one!”confirms the editor -in -chief of the Guinness World Records Craig Glenday. “A large part of its success can be attributed to the importance it attaches to authenticity, by pushing the limits of what star can do. And it is an honor to be able to salute this intrepidity with a new title of the Guinness World Records.”
“New”because the star also has the title of actor who played in the most consecutive films that have brought back at least $ 100 million in the world. A record he confirmed with The Final Reckoning which, not content with having signed the best world start in the franchise, has eleven its total of long film that crossed this course between 2013 and today. And he did not decided to stop there.
After having carried out 106 jumps for the needs of one of the most striking scenes of Fallout, Tom Cruise therefore succeeded what no stuntman or actor had managed to do before him, even if it is necessary to recognize that jumping with a parachute which takes fire is not the daily life of many artists. That does not tell us if this film will be the last of the saga but, if so, it is an understatement to say that his star will have offered a flamboyant outing.
