Unlike some Brazilian sports superstars, Fonseca's story is not one of the humble beginnings in Rio Favels.
Fonseca began playing tennis at a rich family and Rio de Janeiro Country Club – one of the most special private places in Brazil.
His father, Christiano, is a businessman who founded his own hedge fund company, while Mother Roberta was a junior volleyball player who went to the sports event management.
“For me, tennis began as a hobby when I was 10 or 11 years old,” Fonseca said.
“When I was 12 years old, things became more serious and I changed my coach and school.
“I started practicing twice every day in the epidemic. Things changed very fast.”
Global sponsors began to make attractive contracts at the table – which included the sportswear brand part -owl by Roger Federer – while leading agents offered their services.
But the parents of Fonseka have decided to guide themselves with the help of Gustavo Abreu, a former Christo colleague manager.
“I have a great base with my family and team,” said Fonseca.
“They help me to put my feet on the ground and focus on my routine.
“They know what I have to do to improve my game and personality.”
