After being a father and son in “Man of Steel”, Russell Crowe and Henry Cavill will meet for the needs of one of the most anticipated fantastic films in recent years.
A real sea serpent for twenty years, the return of Highlander on the big screen is finally on good rails. While we have known for almost 10 years that it is Chad Stahelski (the John Wick saga) who will take care of the realization of the remake and that Henry Cavill was recruited to play Connor Macleod in 2021, a new name has just been announced in the casting and not least!
Indeed, Collider revealed this weekend that none other than Russell Crowe would reply to the old superman in this new Highlander, after having camped his biological father Jor-El in Man of Steel. And Variety said in the process that the Oscar-winning actor would play a version of the character embodied by Sean Connery in the original film of 1986 with Christophe Lambert in the title role.
Two sword pros
We imagine the Gladiator star very well in the role of the immortal Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, he who proved that he knew perfectly with a blade in the peplum of Ridley Scott. Russell Crowe has also confirmed the good news on X (formerly Twitter) by writing:
Yes … it's true … I'm going to go back to the Highlands … with a sword … It was centuries … It can only be left.
For his part, Henry Cavill has been training for the role for a while and he had also announced in April 2024, shortly after leaving the series The Witcher: “If you think you've already seen me handle the sword, you haven't seen anything yet.“This promises beautiful fights in the film by Chad Stahelski.
A shooting in the fall
With the recruitment of Russell Crowe, the Highlander reboot seems to be launched for good. The latest news, the shooting of the film should start in September for an release in dark rooms in 2027 or 2028.
As for the plot, it should take place in the early 1500s in the Highlands and will continue to New York and Hong Kong in our time. So go to a few years to discover the adventures of the new Connor Macleod and its mentor!
