“Do not suffer this to your children”: why this casting for campsite 3 was canceled in disaster

Who would have thought that the preparation of Fabien Onteniente Camping 3 had been so chaotic? However, this is what the media reports France Bleu In May 2015, which was present in the town of La Teste-de-Buch, located near Arcachon Basin, where a casting took place in order to find children for the film carried by Franck Dubosc.

As France Bleu had noted (recently relayed by TV leisure), the situation quickly turned to disaster. “Moms who were impatient in the street came to hands in front of the children, slaps, insults. Scenes worthy of a film. The production company has been completely overwhelmed”wrote our colleagues at the time.

“It's apocalyptic”testified to a present lady, before another added: “It cries a lot, it gets angry (…) We see human nature in an interesting dimension”. One last was even struck: “In front of my daughter, [une dame] pushed me. I asked her to stop and she put a slap. (…) A slap for a film! “.

It seems that only two employees were present to manage a crowd of 4,000 people who had not been anticipated. The police had to intervene so that calm did not fall back. The place chosen, clearly unsuitable for such a world was finally replaced by a larger multipurpose room, but parents had to leave without their child being able to pass the hearing because the organizers canceled everything from 11:30 am, as announced by the casting director present:

“Go back, don't make your children undergo this”

“I am sorry, it was absolutely not the goal, I have people who come from all over France when we were just supposed to have the people in the basin. Come back, do not subject it to your children, it's just for a day of shooting or two, so go home, it is useless.”

Between the opening and the premature closing date, some 300 children had already been received, much more than the film required it. The complaints were heard in the report of our colleagues after the announcement of the cancellation, some parents pointing that no one would reimburse them neither the journey nor the lost time. A very bad publicity for the film.

Despite this, Camping 3 was released on June 29, 2016 and still totaled 3.2 million admissions, almost as much as the second opus. What to restore the casting to shoot a new one? Not necessarily. The latest collaboration Dubosc-onteniente (All Inclusive, barely 800,000 admissions in 2019) was not covered with success and the film star now seems rather interested in a career as a director.
