Today is World Doll Day. And dolls, we have been able to meet some in recent decades in the cinema. Here are ten in this quiz not easy!
When we evoke the presence of cinema dolls, we generally tend to project ourselves rather towards the fantastic and horrifying genres where these children's toys have often been able to come to life, then developing a disturbing, even evil character.
But in the summer of 2023, it was a much more sympathetic doll that created the sensation and rose at the top of the world box office. We are of course talking about the famous Barbie doll of the Mattel company, embodied in the cinema by Margot Robbie under the direction of Greta Gerwig.
These are therefore ten dolls seen in films that we offer in our quiz of the day, but before getting started, back on the 2023 event film with some filming secrets.
Did you know?
Margot Robbie is Barbie
If Amy Schumer and Anne Hathaway were envisaged to give life to the most famous dolls, it was finally Margot Robbie who was chosen to play Barbie. Greta Gerwig says about it: “Margot is our emblematic Barbie and, as she says in the film, 'I am the Barbie that everyone has in mind when you think of Barbie'.“”
“This Barbie is a producer”
Interpreter of the title role, Margot Robbie is also a producer of the film. It was even she who obtained the rights of the project, submitted it to the Warner, and piloted it. It is thanks to her that Greta Gerwig was offered the realization of Barbie.
The Truman Show
During the development of the project, Greta Gerwig contacted director Peter Weir to tell him about his film The Truman Show to find out how he had created this artificial atmosphere that she wanted to reproduce for Barbie Land. The key was in particular in the lighting: there is no natural light before Barbie and Ken arrive in Los Angeles. All the scenes of Barbie Land were shot in the studio in Leavesden.
