How does “end” end?

During this robbery, Janiyah managed to take the criminal's weapon and shoot him. Her boss thinks she has orchestrated everything to extract money from her and wants to call the police. Pushed to the edge of the abyss by a world which seems indifferent to its existence, it pulls on its boss and kills it.

She recovers her pay and goes to the bank to collect it and thus pay her debts. Seeing that she will not be helped, Janiyah threatens the employees of the bank. Director Nicole (Sherri Shepherd) warns the police. And that's where everything changes.

The authorities think that Janiyah is pointing the bank and taking employees and customers hostage. One of the employees manages to film live which takes place in the bank.

Inspector Raymond (Teyana Taylor) manages to get in touch with Janiyah to hoping to negotiate his exit and that of the hostages and thus put an end to this event. If the rest of the authorities think that the single mother cannot be reasoned and that she has a bomb (which is in reality only the scientific project of her daughter for the school), the live video of the employee allows the rest of the population to better understand it.

Finally, the commitment of the inspector and the bank director, who are affectionate for Janiyah and her situation, allows the single mother to be heard and explain her actions.

The shocking twist of the end of “at the end”

After many twists and turns, Janiyah is preparing to go when she receives a phone call from her mother, who reminds her that her sick daughter died the day before. This is where reality strikes her and that she understands that she failed to accept the death of her daughter and that she imagined it at the start of the day.

Her world that collapsed collapses a little more and Janiyah has no choice but to go to the police, knowing now that she was listened to and that her situation is understood. Especially since she has the support of Nicole, inspector Raymond and the population, who can only identify with her, abandoned by the competent authorities.

Despite the disappearance of her daughter, Janiyah was still ready to save her and make she have a better life. The death of her child made the lead to Janiyah who was completely to the end of his precarious situation, which plunged him into the worst possible, tragic but cruelly realistic situation.

“I'm not intended to teach or make people think when I write”explains Tyler Perry in the film's press kit, “But if people leave with the conscience that everyone goes through a test, that everyone has a story, and that a smile or a little gesture of kindness that you offer them can make all the difference between the success and the failure of their life, it is a message that I would really like to transmit”.

Being herself a single mother, Taraji P. Henson did not hesitate to accept the role of Janiyah that Tyler Perry wrote while thinking of her. “I think people will certainly recognize themselves in Janiyah's difficulties”she says, “We all experienced situations where we felt like we were not heard, where nobody understood what we were saying, and it is a big misunderstanding which suddenly takes on a considerable scale. I think that many people, all over the world, will identify with this. It is universal”.

The film “At Step” is available on Netflix.
