The creator of this science fiction series derived from a very famous license is concerned about the imminent end of very large productions on streaming platforms.
A few weeks ago, fans of the Star Wars saga were finally able to discover the second season of Andor. After three years of waiting, the prequel series of the film Rogue One was finally able to unveil its new unpublished episodes, and to make a very satisfactory conclusion to the program. The success of the series owes a lot to the work of the scriptwriter Tony Gilroy, and his fight to impose his ideas on the management of Disney.

During a panel (via Indiewire), the latter mentioned the more adult tone of this series which allowed him to use in the dialogues a more raw – even rude – language – but also to stage the very first sex scenes of the saga. “At one point, we thought it would be a real problem, but it turned out that it was nothing at all.”
Evoking the budget of the series, Tony Gilroy confesses that the confidence granted by Disney was also synonymous with heavy responsibilities. No less than $ 650 million was invested in both seasons in the program (24 episodes in total), making Andor one of the most expensive series in history.
The end of an era for streaming?
But the English screenwriter knows that he will no longer have the opportunity to shoot series of this magnitude for streaming platforms. The latter also reveals that Disney tried for season 2 of Andor to lower the budget: “We have no more money as before” they said to him, also evoking “Death” streaming and collapse of the economic system of platforms.
Other streaming services have already taken cost reduction measures. Netflix has decided not to produce blockbusters with XXL budgets that it is difficult to make profitable. As for Paramount, the new management recently ordered budget cuts (but which do not concern Yellowstone series).
The two seasons of the Andor series can now be found exclusively on Disney+.
