Kevin Costner has become a star thanks to this scene! In the incorruptibles of Brian de Palma, the actor-director plays Eliott Ness, responsible for enforcing prohibition in Chicago and countering Al Capone, the chief of the local gangsters (Robert de Niro).
For the role of Ness, Costner is recommended by his friend Don Johnson, who of Palma had initially offered the role of Eliott Ness. The two men will turn together in the romantic comedy Tin Cup a few years later. De Palma is skeptical and gives him a chance.

In a few lines and a stroll in the small office in which he reviews his troops, the character of Eliot Ness is posed, and Kevin Costner proves that it is better that the multiple very medium comedies in which we had seen him hitherto, despite his performances in Silverado, the price of the feat of John Badham or the segment of fantastic stories that he had turned for Steven Spielberg.
Within the same film, Kevin Costner brilliantly manages to play the impenetrable lawy whose shell is gradually split in contact with the hardness of the ground. His character also understands that he will not be able to win against Capone and his gang while respecting the legal rules to the letter. An awareness that is felt in the performance of the actor, which was therefore becoming an actor to follow very closely.
